They people who lived there were the curators back in 1968. They let the police officers in and gave them hot chocolate on chilly autumn nights. They told me many things that happened there that were paranormal. He went to the daughter's room and as an avowed skeptic he was converted on the spot when the temperature dropped in that room. The curator told him that the daughter was killed by an Indian in that room and that once when the mansion was locked and she was alone she was cleaning a carpet on her hands and knees in that room and spilled some water. A woman's voice said very clearly, "Oh dear. Did you spill some water?" He took me there to meet the family that ran it. We went upstairs to the sitting room where they hear the rocking chairs going full throttle all night and in the morning the crockery is rearranged. We sat there, three of us..Dennis, me and the daughter, Sally. I said, "I'd give you ten bucks to see something"..and at that moment in the doorway was a brown mist arising from the floor in the doorway taking the shape of a woman. The lights flickered at that moment. My former teacher after retirement took a job there as a tour guide. Miss Doyle told me that a group of school kids stood in front of a fireplace on the first floor in front a an old clock that was much loved by the late caretaker. He would wind it every night. When they took a Polaroid picture of the group there was the man standing there with the kids. She would bring out leaflets and put them in the corridor and go make a cup of tea when the doors were locked. Upon returning they would be completely gone. A psychic from New Jersey was invited there to do a seance and she said it was a very dark place and it was the most haunted place she had ever been in. My late mom's library was haunted by possibly a former librarian or school teacher (it used to be the village school). I saw the ghost--it was my first and only actual sighting--a woman in a navy blue dress who vanished seconds after I saw her--and my mom's assistant saw the ghost, as well, whom seemed to favor haunting the reference room--which was frequently cold and made people so uncomfortable that no one liked to study in there. Other patrons would claim to see a whisp of white going from the lobby to the reference room--out of the corner of their eyes.

Another place where I experienced possible paranormal activity (though it could have been some sort of infrasound issue), was Albany Rural Cemetery. I spent many hours there and loved the place. Besides hiking & fishing & picnicking in there, I spent a couple of years in my late teens/20's doing very intensive amateur historical research on the cemetery.

One day, while checking out an abandoned gravesite of members of what I believed where from the displaced African-Methodist church burial grounds, I suddenly felt very uncomfortable, like I was mentally being pushed away. Despite telling myself I was imagining things--and remember, I am not afraid of cemeteries, I had to leave.

My mom, whose family has graves there dating to the 1840's, also had a similar experience at a gravesite she was checking out.

The worse experience was when I was walking past the office one Sunday, out on a hike & picnic with my dog. I was about 21 at the time. I couldn't get past the office. I tried to, but there was this feeling of pure, oppressive evil settling in over me. I sat it out and had my lunch, thinking it would pass, but the more I stayed, the more I felt something bad would happen if I went further. I eventually virtually ran home--something I'd never done before or since. That might have been an infrasound incident--there was the Watervliet rail yard & Altech steel nearby, but also, there was the grave on the hill belonging to the first man ever to be electrocuted by the state of New York, for murdering his wife--which he denied to the point of having a plate installed on his coffin--"they would not if they had known."

Oh, and while I was a tour guide at Ten Broeck mansion, I was told that the basement caretaker's apartment was haunted by a man in a uniform dating from the 1812 War. I volunteered for the Ten Broeck Mansion's annual haunted house for 2009-2012. In fact if any readers have gone to the event in the past few years, I probably scared you in the basement ;)

I absolutely swear the mansion is haunted. The second two years, the event was handled by a local paranormal investigation team. Now, from the first time I went in the mansion I felt something was off. When I walked by the daughter's room upstairs, I froze. The hair stood up on the back of my neck and I got chills. I've only had to go into that room once, to do make up with my friends, and I felt on-edge the entire time. Everyone there says that room makes them feel uneasy too. The paranormal team did an investigation one night, and eventually showed and told us the results. They caught many EVPs (electronic voice phenomena. Essentially sounds we can't hear but will manifest on a recording, like a disembodied voice), including the same monotonous, almost robotic laugh THREE TIMES in different parts of the mansion, footsteps, some strange noises, and the scariest was a man's voice clearly and angrily saying "Get out". That was taken in the kitchen, which is where I worked almost completely secluded and alone in the dark my first year. KJAHFKDG.

The most amazing thing they caught was from the daughter's bedroom. They were taking photos outside of the mansion just to have pictures of the mansion itself, and in one of them in the daughter's window you can see a figure dressed in a nightgown through the curtains. As clear as day, it is there. You can make out the silk pattern and even see a hand. At first we thought it was the dress that was on display in the window, until we realized it was in the window NEXT to this one. There was no one in the house at the time and the figure is completely transparent.

As for personal experiences, I did see a shadow figure dart from out behind me in the basement. It was dark and some could say it was a trick of the light, but I saw it. And one especially creepy night the last year I did it, we had to stop because things were flying off the walls in the dining room. In front of guests. Soon lights began flickering. So they turned on the lights, came downstairs, and told us the house was angry and we should stop. That was scary. Bellahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11600067573233597045noreply@blogger.com
